Bringing the circular economy to life

We capture carbon as potassium carbonate and put it in amazing consumer products

What we do at CleanO2

We are a cleantech company that captures carbon and makes soap and other products. What connects these two endeavours is the circular economy.

We start with the idea of reusing, reducing and recycling existing materials — core activities in the circular economy — and take it one step further. For starts, the CarbinX carbon capture units themselves are over 95 per cent recyclable. But there’s more here than meets the eye. These units enable us to take an environmentally harmful greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide, and upcycle it into useful products, including soaps.

It starts with CarbinX

Our CarbinX units capture carbon dioxide from the flues of natural-gas heating appliances in commercial buildings. This involves a one-step, zero-waste process that produces only potassium carbonate and water.

Brought back to our facility, the potassium carbonate (also known as pearl ash) is used as a key ingredient in our soaps and other products.

One input, many products

Currently, we use the potassium carbonate from our CarbinX devices to produce bar soap, janitorial detergents and cleaners.

Our award-winning bar soaps are our best-established products. These handmade luxury soaps are cold processed and take six to eight weeks to cure. The addition of potassium carbonate gives them a uniquely silky lather. You can learn more about them at cleano2.ca.

Potassium carbonate can be a valuable chemical input in several industries. We’ll introduce our fertilizer soon, with other products at the research-and-development stage.

Doubling down on reinvestment

Proceeds from the sales of CleanO2 products are reinvested into research and development and future deployments of CarbinX units.
